What Kapanol is used for
Kapanol contains morphine sulphate, which belongs to a group of medicines called opioid analgesics.

Kapanol is used for the relief of chronic, moderate to severe pain.

Your doctor may have prescribed Kapanol for another reason. Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why Kapanol has been prescribed for you.

Although Kapanol contains morphine, people who take morphine for a long time to treat their pain rarely become addicted to it. However, with time, your body will become used to taking morphine and you may experience symptoms due to withdrawal if you suddenly stop taking this medicine. If you have not done so already, you should discuss this further with your doctor.

Some people may develop a tolerance to morphine. If this happens your doctor may increase the dose so that you get adequate pain relief.

Indication of Kapanol:
Morphine is indicated in for the following:
- Relief of moderate to severe acute and chronic pain
- Cough suppression
- Relief of severe shortness of breathing in patients with lung cancer
- Treatment of pulmonary oedema
- Treatment of diarrhoea

Dose Advice of Kapanol:
Kapanol is a slow release formulation of morphine, which means it only needs to be given once or twice a day.

The usual initial dose of Kapanol in patients who have never had opioid medications is 40 mg every 24 hours or 20 mg every 12 hours.

In patients who have previously been on opioid medication the dose will vary.
